We are pilgrims on a journey, we’re companions on the road; we are here to help each other walk the mile and bear the load. The 134-mile North Wales Pilgrim’s Way from Basingwerk Abbey to Ynys Enlli / Bardsey Island passes through Rowen. This book gives an account of their walk. A Challenge event is a longer, organised, walk mostly on footpaths and other Public Rights of Way, across open fields and moors, avoiding tarmac as much as possible. The 33-mile trail across Conwy is part of the North Wales Pilgrim’s Way, a historical 130-mile route from Basingwerk Abbey to Bardsey Island. The North Wales Pilgrims Way is a long distance walking route beginning near Holywell and ending at Bardsey Island. Lucy provides some practical information about what to pack and where to stay. The trail follows the traditional paths of the medieval pilgrims who would visit holy wells, churches and shrines dedicated to celtic saints along the way. We hope you enjoy your visit to Rowen. You can stamp your Pilgrim’s Passport, and sign the visitors’ book at Seion Chapel, in the middle of Rowen. You can also collect a passport stamp here which is located in the porch, left hand side, top of the wall, under the eaves. The route is described both from Winchester in Hampshire (136.5 miles) and London’s Southwark Cathedral (90 miles), with an optional spur to Rochester Cathedral. We'll call in on a variety of holy sites from an acient celtic cross, to medieval churches and holywells. Welcome to the Pilgrims Way .
We encounter this church 2.5 miles from the start of day 3 (St Asaph to Llansannan) of the Pilgrims Way and we usually have our mornings coffee break in the church yard.
