Cottonwood Canyon Wilderness is a 11,712-acre (47.4 km2) wilderness area in the US state of Utah. Dogs and horses are also able to use this trail. The Cottonwood Forest Wilderness now contains a total of 2,620 acres and is managed by the Forest Service. There are two areas to explore. With wilderness values so exceptional -- and development potential so marginal -- one might expect that the Forest Service and the BLM would vigorously promote wilderness protection for the entire Escalante River basin. It was designated March 30, 2009, as part of the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009. The Forest Service is now losing a million dollars a year on the Dixie National Forest. These trails range from 0.6 to 60 miles in length. The trail is primarily used for hiking, bird watching, horses, and mountain biking and is best used from September until May. Located within the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, Cottonwood Canyon Wilderness includes 11,667 acres in the state of Utah.Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, the Cottonwood Canyon Wilderness shares a border with the Cottonwood Forest Wilderness to its north. All of the Wilderness is in the state of Utah. Cottonwood Forest Wilderness Area has 32 trails in the vicinity, including 17 for mountain biking, 17 for road biking and 19 for other activities. Cottonwood Trail is a 5.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Hurricane, Utah that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The Candy Cliffs in the Yant Flat area of the Cottonwood Forest Wilderness are one of the most beautiful areas in all of Utah. Cottonwood Forest Camp is situated along Cottonwood Creek 2 miles from Cottonwood Ranger Station. In 2009 the Cottonwood Forest Wilderness became part of the now over 109 million acre National Wilderness Preservation System.
We had a hard time finding this campground and actually had to stop and ask someone for directions at Irish Point. The longest trail in Cottonwood Forest Wilderness Area is Water Canyon Track a well-known trail measuring 60 miles in total length. The only marking was a mailbox marked "Cottonwood Station". Cottonwood Forest Wilderness is a 2,643-acre (10.7 km 2) wilderness area in the US state of Utah.It was designated March 30, 2009, as part of the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009. These cliffs are relatively accessible from the Cottonwood Forest Road 031 being about 1.2 miles from the parking area. Located within the Dixie National Forest near the base of the Pine Valley Mountains, it is adjacent to the Cottonwood Canyon Wilderness, which is part of the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area. It is a mile or so past Irish Point and the road turns off to the left.
